Since the debut of its signature comic-book style in 2018, the Spider-Verse films have been carving out an identity for experimental animation in the mainstream industry. This lecture will spotlight the cutting-edge developments that break the barriers between 2D and 3D- in both FX and animation. Come get to know the minds behind the mask.

Edmond-Boulet-Gilly

Engineer and computer science graduate, Edmond now works as visual effect artist on CG animated features at Sony Pictures Imageworks. As Inklines Technical Lead on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, he studied the stylization process in the FX department including how to generate and ingest curves in 3D space to blend linework with NPR rendering techniques.

Mònica Eggert Roig

Mònica is an animator at Sony Pictures Imageworks. Coming from 2D animation, she made the jump to 3D after her animation reel/short film that combined both techniques, showcasing her passion for storytelling. This short film allowed her to work on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse along with various other features and projects. Between these projects she collaborated with Blender Studio on the open movie “Sprite Fright”, which made her even more involved with the Blender community (she already was a user on a personal level).

Sharon Snow

Sharon Snow is an FX artist at Sony Pictures Imageworks and Blender user specializing in 2D/3D hybrid animation. After making her debut in the animation industry with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, she continues to strive toward experimental work.
